Root Canal Southside Indianapolis IN

Root Canals An Overview

A root canal procedure can save a natural tooth from extraction and maintain the structural integrity of your smile. Dr. Carole Thoman and Dr. Robin Thoman offer root canals at Paradox Dental in Southside Indianapolis to restore a damaged or decayed tooth and avoid the need for tooth replacement.

The advances made in materials and techniques have made the root canal procedure less invasive and more comfortable for the patient. A root canal can require up to 2 visits, depending on the severity of the damage or infection. In many cases, we will also recommend the subsequent placement of a dental crown to strengthen the tooth and help prevent further damage to the structure of your smile. A dental crown will be placed at another visit.

Paradox Dental offers dental sedation for patients who experience dental anxiety or would prefer to be completely relaxed during their procedure. We will discuss your needs and medical history prior to your root canal appointment to determine the most appropriate type of sedation for a safe and comfortable experience.

Root Canals What to Expect

Our team will work with you to ensure you are comfortable before beginning the root canal procedure, using a local anesthetic or a previously determined type of dental sedation. Once you are relaxed, we will clean the area and Dr. Thoman will make a tiny hole in the back of the tooth. The next step is to gently remove the infected pulp and clean the interior chambers of the tooth. This will relieve discomfort in patients who are experiencing tooth pain.

Once the tooth is cleaned out and all areas of infection or damage are addressed, a biocompatible material will be placed in the empty chambers to stabilize the tooth structure. The tooth is then sealed and restored with a crown at a later visit with our dentist in Indianapolis IN.
